Announcing Angelica Garcia’s ‘Cha Cha Palace,’ out February 28th

Anticipate no more. Details on Angelica Garcia‘s new album is here. It’s called Cha Cha Palace and will be here on February 28th, 2020. Today, you can hear the dynamic new single “Guadalupe” and watch the Spencer Ford (Brockhampton)-directed video.

Referencing La Virgen de Guadalupe (a Catholic icon of the Latinx community), “Guadalupe” is a meditation on the deity as a powerful 14 year-old who is the epicenter of a culture—and the responsibility that comes along with that. The announcement comes on the heels of an exciting beginning to the year, which included a co-sign from President Barack Obama and inclusion in The New York Times’ ‘Things Our Critics Are Looking Forward To’ list and ‘Best Songs of 2019’ (recent single “Jícama”). Cha Cha Palace is now available for digital and physical pre-order. Garcia will next perform as part of the second installment of Remezcla’s Nuevo Noise series at Brooklyn, NY’s Elsewhere Zone One on January 27th before returning to SXSW Music Festival 2020 in March. She’ll also support Helado Negro as part of the Noise Pop Festival at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall on February 26th.

Growing up I was taught the tradition of looking up to La Virgen de Guadalupe for comfort and protection. This was passed down to me by my grandmother. As I got older, the duality of her story started to sink in with me,” explains Garcia. “I was confused that this young mother is so highly regarded in Latinx culture, yet many women around me (my mothers, cousins, sisters, and friends) felt so disrespected at times because of their gender and its associated roles. I believe part of her power is that she’s an unexpected hero. Her power is not defined by her physique. I give thanks for that and cherish thatbecause if it’s true for her, it’s true for me and my sisters. Sacredness is held within us and cannot be deciphered by an outer appearance.”

Cha Cha Palace is available to pre-order now on sapphire blue vinyl, standard black vinyl, and CD. Bundle it with a “Wear Your Roots” t-shirt, which benefits Immigrant Families Together, Annunciation House, and ¡MIRA!
